About Vernon
I am Vernon L. Williams.
I’m often asked how I can help bedside nurses since I’ve never been one. The answer is simple: I don’t teach nursing. I address the stress patterns that I have observed within nursing environments.
For more than 20 years, I worked as a patient advocate. I had direct observation of bedside nurses in clinical settings.
I observed nurses dealing with the same circumstances day after day. I also noticed that some nurses experienced those circumstances differently from others. That led me to this conclusion: circumstances matter, but our interpretation of circumstances often increases or minimizes the stress we experience.
Based on that, I used my background in applied behavioral science and cognitive behavioral therapy to create and test methods to help nurses reduce/prevent stress. The goal was (as it is today) to give nurses practical tools that they can use in real time to reduce stress, prevent burnout, and protect their health.
The tools include:
- An Audio Program
- A Book
- One-on-one coaching
- Workshops
How the tools work
Most approaches to nurse stress focus on coping with stress after it has already taken hold.
My approach focuses on preventing stress from taking hold by applying practical steps:
- Before the shift begins
- During the shift itself
- After the shift ends
My Approach is not:
- Therapy
- General wellness advice
- Motivational speaking
It is structured, practical stress prevention education designed for bedside nurses.
Who This Is For Â
This work is designed for:
- Bedside nurses in acute care environments
- Nurses experiencing emotional or cognitive overload
- Nurses who carry stress home after shifts
- Nurses seeking practical tools, not theory
- Healthcare organizations focused on retention and workforce stability
